The MJHL is playing a modified 40 game schedule this season which is 20 fewer games than in a normal season. The regular season will now begin on Friday, October 9 and ahead of that day, the Dauphin Kings will hold their main camp this weekend inside of Credit Union Place.
The league is allowing each team to bring 34 players into camp which is significantly less than in previous years. It's been an exciting offseason for the organization with news of some major players returning from last year's team and they will all be front and centre this weekend as the team holds what should be one of their most competitive camps in years.
"We have a solid group of veterans and some top prospects coming in that are looking to make this team," said Doug Hedley, head coach, and general manager. "We have speed, we have compete, and we have a lot of talent. Everyone is really looking forward to getting things going."
Camp begins on Friday afternoon and it runs through Sunday when the Club holds its annual intrasquad game which will pit Team White against Team Blue. Credit Union Place will be closed to spectators, however; each player will be allowed a parent or guardian into the arena to watch.
You can also listen to the JoFo Cup with the Voice of the Kings Darnell Duff on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. After Sunday, the Kings will immediately jump into preseason action as they will host the Swan Valley Stampeders on Monday evening with game time set for 7:30 p.m.
After that game, the team heads on the road for a game against Portage on September 30 before the team ends its preseason on October 3 when Neepawa is in town and Darnell Duff will also have the broadcast of that game leading to October 9. Don't forget, you can check out a full broadcast schedule here.
Stay tuned this weekend for updates from Darnell and the reports will be brought to you by Parkland Source for Sports.
