The Dauphin Clippers Varsity Girls Volleyball team is getting set to take part in their toughest tournament of the year according to their head coach.
Jeremy Love says the Selkirk Royals Volleyball tournament, which starts Friday, features a number of good teams.
He adds there'll be some stiff competition for his club.
"Ya, there's us, Virden and Neelin which would be the only AAA teams and in the pre season those three would be in the top four or five for sure in Manitoba for AAA. Then all the rest of the top AAAA teams are there."
Love notes it'll be a good learning experience for his team, who are expected to challenge for a provincial championship this season.
"We're gonna be put in a lot of difficult situations and it's gonna give us a chance to see how we handle those type of situations. We've kind of worked on some certain lineups we're gonna try and we're gonna evaluate those. It's just an opportunity for us to be really pushed and get out of our comfort zone and see how we respond to that."
After finishing with Bronze a couple weekends ago in Regina, Love says the senior girls volleyball team isn't relying on just one player to get the job done, which is a good sign.
"We've got some very strong attackers in Jeanne Brenner and Sami Love, but we need our passers like Sam Baran who's doing a really good job in the back row to get the ball to our setters. Renee Desroches, who's running the offence and doing a really good job. But that's the neat thing about volleyball, if things go well everyone's working together and improving and if they aren't playing well then everything falls apart.
The Clipper girls begin their journey towards gold in Selkirk on Friday evening when they meet Winnipeg's Vincent Massey Vikings.
After this weekend's tournament the senior girls have some time off with their next event not coming until the end of October. They will, however, get some exhibition action in against Swan Valley in two weeks.
