Two local hockey players are getting set to depart to the Canada Winter Games in Prince George BC this weekend.
Parkland Rangers Tyler Jubenvill and Connor Dewar are with Team Manitoba, and they open the preliminary round of the hockey tournament on Sunday against Ontario.
Jubenvill, who hails from Gilbert Plains, says he knows most of the other players going to Prince George.
"I've played on team with all of them except for about three of them or so, so we'll have some chemistry."
He thinks it'll be a fun event to play in because it doesn't come around every season.
"It's a rare occasion cause it only happens every four years, so I hope I don't get too nervous or anything but obviously I'll be pretty excited cause it's a rare event."
Connor Dewar, who lives in Dauphin, talks about how he found out he was selected for the event.
"Kyle Prystupa (Manager, Development & Communications) for Hockey Manitoba called me and told me they had a spot and they were happy with how I played in Shattuck and they're looking forward to the Winter Games."
Dewar adds he'll try and treat the tournament like any other one he's played in before, even if it is on a national stage.
"It'll be hard to but that's what I'm gonna try and do. It's a great opportunity and I'm excited for it."
After Sunday's preliminary round opener Manitoba will be back in action on Monday night and you can actually watch their game against British Columbia on TSN. The contest starts at 9:30pm in Manitoba.

It'll be a tight schedule for both Dewar and Jubenvill. After they get back from the Canada Winter Games the two rejoin the Parkland Rangers for the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League playoffs which start on Monday March 2nd. Of course the Rangers play the Winnipeg Thrashers in the first round.
