Riley Hammond scored just :42 seconds into the game and the Dauphin Clippers went on to cruise in a 5-0 win against Virden tonight.
It was Dauphin’s second straight win and this one gave the team a berth in the semifinals.
”That was a really big goal for us to start the game,” said Trevor Robak. “Virden’s goalie played really good in the first game, so we really had to focus on taking his confidence away today. We did that with that first goal.”
”We got better as the game went on and we really settled in,” he added. “I think we had some nerves in game one but we rebounded very nicely.”
Logan Conrad made it 2-0 for Dauphin at the 11:53 mark. The club kept it coming shortly after. Bonnett scored his first of the game with two minutes left in the first as Dauphin led 3-0 after 20.
After a scoreless midway frame, it was Riley Hammond‘s time to shine again. He scored just :54 seconds into the third.
“He has some excellent hands and when he gets around the net, he can finish,” added Robak.
Bryce Bonnett scored his second of the game just five minutes later.
Bode Childs was a rock in net making 20 saves for the shutout.
“He’s starting to get his confidence back and he’s playing like he’s dialed in,” said Robak.
Dauphin will now play Killarney in the semifinals. The schedule for the series will be released later this week.
