Over the past 10 years, Sifton's Peter Prokopowich and the Kelly Robertson curling team have made a lot of noise on the ice, both in Manitoba and around the world as well.

Now, they're hoping to recreate the magic that has happened a few times in the past few years as they get ready to play in the Strathcona Trust Senior Men's Provincial Championships.

It will be Peter's 10th appearance at the tournament.

"It's always nice to go to this event, it's a lot of fun," said Prokopowich. "We haven't curled a lot since the zones. I think most teams are in the same position though. It's almost like starting the year over and we'll just see how it goes."

Although this senior team that will play this week hasn't hit the ice much lately, Peter has. He played on Kelly Robertson's rink at the Viterra Championships just a couple weeks back in Brandon.

The team didn't do as they would have hoped, but it did give them a chance to get some competitive games in before this event begins tomorrow.

"The other guys on our team have been curling in some other events as well," added Prokopowich. "Obviously at the Viterra's, we were playing against the best men's teams so it's always nice to get in some competitive games."

Going into this tournament, Prokopowich, Robertson, Doug Armour, and Bob Scales are ranked as the #3 seed. Dauphin's Ray Baker is joining the team as their fifth. The high ranking really doesn't come as a surprise based on what this foursome has done in the past.

In the 2011 event, they went on to win the Championship and also won the Canadian Championships. They represented Canada at the World Championships and placed second in that event in 2012.

The foursome came back and once again won Manitoba in the 2012 season. They missed the playoffs at the Canadian Championships. After falling short in 2013, the team came back in 2014 and won Manitoba once again and lost in the Canadian final. So that's three Manitoba Championships, one Canadian Championship, and one World Championship silver all in a four-year span.

"There are so many good teams in the field this year so I don't think anyone is really keying in on us," said Prokopowich. "We're going in confident but we're definitely going to have to earn this one."

The team's seven-game round-robin begins tomorrow. Here is the full schedule:

"It's definitely a grind playing this much in a short period of time," said Prokopowich. "Especially this year we're playing in two towns and we don't have a hotel in Rivers. We'll have to handle our time well and just work it out as we go."
