A good start is near mandatory for the Dauphin Kings tonight as they welcome the Selkirk Steelers to town.

Dauphin hasn’t scored first in a game since December 21 and getting behind the eight ball has really hurt the Kings as they’re 2-4 over the span.

Dating back to December 9, Dauphin is 2-7-1 which has really created a logjam in the bottom half of the standings to this date. Dauphin enters tonight tied with Winnipeg for sixth.

Winnipeg also just picked up a fantastic scorer in Tony Apetagon from OCN and they also received Darren Gisti who has a hammer from the back end.

The Kings are three points ahead of Winkler who sit in eighth.

All in all, you get the sense that tonight’s game against Selkirk is nearly a must win.

This will be game two of Dauphin’s four game home stand and the team will get a break until next Friday after this game.

The action gets underway at 7:30.

Parkland Midget Rangers:

The team is back at Credit Union Place for a weekend set. Today, the challenge is the Interlake Lightning.

The two clubs have had a dandy of a season series so far as they’ve both won a game each. Both games also were decided by one tally.

Coming into the game, Parkland has 14 points while Interlake is two ahead at 16.

The puck drops at 2:00 p.m.
