The Ronald McDonald House in Winnipeg has asked a family from Dauphin to be their special guests.
Curtis Kaleta and his family were invited to attend the Hope Couture Fashion Gala next month.
Kaleta says they were invited as a thank you for all the hard work they do in support of the charity here at home.
“It’s the second year that we’ve been asked to be part of their fashion gala in Winnipeg. They’ve invited us as a guest family so come and mix and mingle and have some fun. They see what work we are doing in Dauphin for their organization and it’s their way of giving back to us.”
Kaleta is already getting ready for this year’s Dane Kaleta Memorial fundraiser which takes place in June.

RCMP have arrested 3 in connection with drug trafficking in Camperville.
Last Tuesday, Winnipegosis RCMP with assistance from Ste. Rose du Lac and Dauphin RCMP executed two warrants simultaneously at two residences on Arena Road.
At one residence, police arrested 58 year old Arnold Joseph Guiboche and 52 year old Gail Charlene Guiboche. At the second residence 52 year old Thomas Van Lynn was arrested.
Police seized cocaine, prescription medication, marihuana, drug paraphernalia, cash and ammunition.
All accused have been released from custody pending future court dates.

The Gilbert Plains Fire Department put out a fire at the Municipal Shop this afternoon.
Reports say the fire started before lunch.
Emergency crews are still on the scene.

The Dauphin and District Snowmobile Club Trails are closed for the season.
The club announced today that members will be removing all signage and trail markers in the next couple of days.
Riding trails are now at the snowmobilers risk and SnoMan is no longer liable for any injuries or damage done to equipment.

Safeway employees ratified their new agreement last night.
The new four year agreement between Local 832 members working voted overwhelmingly in favour of the new contact.
The new contract includes wage gains in the third and fourth years as well as no cost benefits, dental plans and seniority rights.
UFCW Local 832 represents more than 100 workers at Safeway in Dauphin.

The 111th Brandon Winter Fair starts today.
The fair is packed with events for every one of every age.
Ron Kristjansson, General Manager of the Winter Fair explains some of the highlights.
“We’ve got a jam packed show all week long. We’ve got horse show running’s all day and all evening in both ends of the Keystone Centre, both in the Westoba Ag centre arena and the Westoba place main arenas. Hunter Jumpers, some of the big names in equestrian show jumpers. We have a barn full of cattle in the Kinsmen arena in our Royal farm yard area right next to our Ag Education piece.”
The fair runs to Saturday the 31st, and is open daily from 8 in the morning until 8 at night.

Plans are in development to rehabilitate the Highway 20 Edwards Creek Bridge.
The bridge, located on highway 20 on the way to Ste. Rose is in the stages of being replaced.
Jeff Pratte, a Planner with Landmark Planning and Design explains how the desired plan will work:
“Building the new bridge adjacent to the current bridge structure slightly to the south, and using the old bridge for traffic till the new bridge is complete at which the old bridge would be removed and and there for you don’t need any lengthy detours over municipal roads or the expense of putting in a temporary bridge during construction process.”
The regulatory approvals and land acquisition for the project will take around 2 years with a completion date expected in 5.

A major concern the Manitoba Green Party is shedding some light on, is contaminated water and wells.
Last week, Ian Brown and Kate Storey took samples of contaminated water from local wells, to both Sopuck and Michaleski’s office.
Brown, CEO for the Green Party, Dauphin – Neepawa Riding, talks about the water quality in the area:
“I don’t think there is a well in our area, there isn’t one that I know of where people actually use the water anymore. The reason for that is because of the materials that are filtering down through what is left of the soil. Regenerative farming creates new soil and filters out all of the bad stuff that is put on the soils that wind up now filtering through into that well water.”
They are calling on the province to heed to the Defend The Water campaign and to establish regenerative farming practices.

Organizations and programs in Gilbert Plains will be benefiting from the hard work of a local group.
The Gilbert Plains Community Fund is presenting grants at their annual awards gala on April 7.
Chair for the fund, Charlene Gulak talks about the amount being given out:
“I think this year has been a moderate, yet strong year as far as investments and stability as far as the growth in our fund. So we are very pleased to be granting out $4000 this year as far as grants going back to the community.”
