RCMP Received 20 Calls during Countryfest

Dauphin’s RCMP has reported that during this year's Countryfest weekend,

there were around 20 calls for service.

This year there were 2 assaults, 3 thefts, and 8 mischief complaints.

This is similar to numbers the detachment has seen for the last few years.

Searchers are continuing to look for a man who disappeared at Dauphin's Countryfest.

24-year-old Danny Kidane from Winnipeg was last seen and heard from by friends and family this past Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Sergeant Paul Manaigre, RCMP Media Relations Officer, spoke with us this afternoon.

He says there are around 50 people on the ground right now searching.

“Probably the best thing people can do right now is getting the word out. We put his photo out on Facebook, and the media has put it out as well."

"Right now I think we have a lot of people on the ground helping out. So if we were to require more resources we would definitely reach out to people. But at this point, I think, we have lots of boots on the ground to do that part.”

Manaigre asks people who live around the site to search their property.

“Perhaps search your property. Or make sure no one wandered into the area, or anything, like that.”

A Canine team from the Brandon Police, the Office of the Fire Commissioner, and CountryFest Security are all working together in the search.

The RCMP have expanded their search into the Riding Mountain National Park and the surrounding areas.

With Canada releasing the list of tariffs on U.S. products coming into Canada, now is a good time to think about buying and supporting locally made products.

The Dauphin Co-op sources Canadian and locally grown and produced food, and hardware items such as paint.

Shoppers can recognize these products in store because of the signs that are up stating “Canadian Made” or “Grown at Home”.

The City of Dauphin is getting ready for the upcoming municipal election by updating the voter list.

Sharla Griffiths, the Deputy City Manager, spoke with us about why the voter list is important.

“The voters list helps us to ensure a fair election that people who are eligible to vote, do vote. It helps us to ensure that people, who are not eligible to vote, do not vote. As well it can be a tool that candidates use to campaign with.”

If you live in an apartment building, new to the community, or don’t think you are on the list you are encouraged to go to city hall and register.

Clear Lake has implemented a new ban for the park .

Effective as of May 11, 2018, a bait restriction is in place for all the waters in Riding Mountain National Park.

The use or possession of leeches for fishing is no longer allowed in lakes at the park due to the increased risk of spreading microscopic zebra mussel larvae.

Countryfest 2018 held a special memorial on Sunday for the late former Mayor, Eric Irwin who passed away in November.

Irwin was the long time President of the festival and a memorial plaque was presented to his family, which will hang in the amphitheatre.

The rain didn’t deter any of the acts from taking the stage, nor did it stop the crowds of people from showing up.

Gate attendance numbers still need to be confirmed, but Countryfest is already gearing up for their 30^th anniversary in 2019 with tickets already on sale.

RCMP have confirmed a search for a missing man from the Countryfest site.

Sergeant Paul Manaigre, RCMP Media Relations Officer, provides more information.

On July 1, 2018, at 10:40 am, the Dauphin RCMP received a report of a missing 24-year-old male. Danny Berhie Kidane was last seen by his friends at 6:00 pm on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Dauphin Countryfest grounds.

Kidane is described as African-Canadian, 5’6”, 140 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair. He was last seen wearing black shorts and flip flops.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dauphin RCMP at 204-622-5050, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).

Currently a ground search is being conducted in the area and a canine unit is coming in. Search and rescue teams have arrived on scene.

Police are investigating into an incident of child luring on Long Plain First Nation approximately 232 kilometres southeast of Dauphin.

This past Thursday, they received a report that a man in his sixties or seventies tried to get two children inside his van.

The first incident involved a four year old boy and the second incident involved a six year old girl.

The man is described as having grey hair, wearing a black shirt and black baseball cap with a Nike swoosh logo and is driving a white or grey coloured van with a luggage rack and Manitoba licence plates.

Everyone has the right to participate and feel included.

That’s what the Grandview Swimming Pool is trying to achieve by purchasing a pool access chair.

Jill Wiebe Grandview Rec Director, tells us why they’re needing this equipment.

“We’re trying to raise funds for a pool access chair to go into the Grandview Swimming pool. This pool access chair is a wheelchair that someone can go in and out of before and after the pool. This allows them to not get their regular day-to-day wheelchair wet. They can go into this wheelchair and take a shower in it in our facilities. It’s just trying to make everybody’s life a little bit easier in our pool and we’re trying to be accessible friendly to everyone who is a pool user.”

The pool access chair will greatly help out with Grandview’s Swim Ability Program that allows for children with disabilities to participate in a swimming program.

So far they have raised $905 for the chair and have applied for grants to assist with the purchase.

Their next fundraising efforts will be at the Grandview Kinsmen Mud Bog event, where they’ll be selling 50/50 tickets.

The water level in Clear Lake is low this year.

Boaters should be aware of the damage that could occur if their boats get hit a shoal.

Tim Sallows, a resource conservation officer with Parks Canada, spoke with us about what boaters should be looking out for when out on the water.

“The shoals that are present in clear lake are not so far underwater than they usually are. We have marked all the shoals that we are aware of. There’s 3 markers on each of the long shoals. There’s 3 longer shoals and a couple of singular shoals. The west end is the shallow end of the lake. If you stay away from the west end as much as you can.”

Water levels have been lower in the past and Sallows says they have photos from 1914 that show 30 feet of beach on Clear Lake.
