If you have ever considered a career with the RCMP, then you are encouraged to attend a recruitment session Wednesday night at ACC's Parkland Campus.

Dauphin detachment Sergeant Scott Linklater admits working with the RCMP is challenging, but is also very rewarding.

"There are so many opportunities with the RCMP, so many different avenues that you can take once you become a member, you can join the police dog service or a forensic identification specialist.  We have members who go worldwide as part of different liaison units.  The door is wide open.  It is a job where there is great variety.  You are never really bored because there is something new coming up all of the time."

Members of the RCMP recruitment division will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on the many different careers within the police service.

Linklater adds the RCMP are looking for more than just officers.

"Besides police officers, we are also looking for telecommunications officers in our dispatch, we are looking for public servants that work in our detachment and assist us.  There are all sorts of different roles that come out of that."

The recruitment session goes from 6:30 to 7:30 Wednesday night in room 101 at the Assiniboine Community College Parkland Campus, and Linklater encourages anyone that is interested to attend and be prepared to ask questions.

The City of Brandon says work continues to repair the damage done to its Civic Services Complex from a natural explosion at the facility in early September.

The work, which is expected to take several months to complete., includes stabilizing walls, repairing the roof, and waterproofing the building.

Since the building can not be used for city operations while the repairs are being done, the City of Brandon has secured a temporary location on Park Avenue East which they say will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4:30.

Brandon Public Works and other internal city departments will be housed in the new location until repairs to the City Services Complex are completed.

An investigation into the cause of the September 7th blast is ongoing.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is asking the new NDP government to end the process of severance payouts for former MLAs who either lost their seat in the previous election or retired and chose not to run again.

The CTF recently released its calculations for severance payouts to 25 former MLAs who were either defeated in the October 3rd vote or chose not to run for re-election.

They say the payout is based on the number of years an MLA has been in office, with an MLA receiving one month’s pay for each year they were in office, from a minimum of three months' pay to a maximum of 12 months

According to the CTF, outgoing Dauphin MLA Brad Michaleski - who decided not to seek re-election - is in line for a transition allowance of $63,658 thanks to his almost 7 1/2 years in office.

In total, the CTF says the former MLAs are eligible to receive $1.84 million in severance, ranging from $25,749 to $102,998

The Dauphin Friendship Center is looking to spread some warmth this season with the return of its Coats for Kids Program.

For over 20 years, this community-minded organization has been working to make sure that everyone has the cold-weather gear they need.

Running until December, Robin Gambler with the DFC says keeping kids warm this winter is their goal.

"We try and focus on the kids, but there are some teenagers that need some outerwear as well. We take pretty much everything gently used. We do not have the means to wash everything, so it should come clean and ready for a child to put on"
