Free Items in Winnipeg

Trash is free for the taking this weekend in Winnipeg. Winnipeggers can put unwanted goods on the curb marked "free" and people can come by and take them away.

Randy Park with the city's waste diversion program says people have been putting out sporting equipment, furniture, electronics, toys and books.

Park says if items aren't claimed, people can always donate the items to charity.

Winnipeg Park Renamed

A Winnipeg park has been renamed for a battle in Korea in 1951. Councillor Scott Gillingham led the charge to re-name Amherst Park as Kapyong Park.

The 2nd Batallion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry won a US presidential citation for its efforts in repelling Chinese and North Korean forces in the Battle of Kapyong in South Korea.

Gillingham says meeting the last three Manitobans alive who were part of that effort was part of the inspiration for changing the park's name. 

Canada Remembers 9/11

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has issued a statement to mark the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, expressing his support to all those still struggling with their physical and emotional injuries.

Twenty-four Canadians were killed in the attacks, and Trudeau says Canada joins with the families and friends of the victims to remember them.

A ceremony will be held at the airport in Gander, Newfoundland today as a piece of steel from the south tower of the World Trade Center will be unveiled.

It's a thank you to the town that took in nearly seven-thousand plane passengers when all flights were grounded.

Attempted Attack In Sydney

Police in Sydney, Australia say an attack in a city park was inspired by the Islamic State group.

A 22-year-old man is charged with attempted murder and committing a terrorist act after a man was stabbed yesterday afternoon.

The victim is in critical condition.
