With her family by her side, Cynthia Nepinak passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Monday.
Chief Derek Nepinak shared this in a Facebook post.
"Principal Nepinak loved all the kids in the community and welcomed every child with open arms and a hug. She took personal responsibility for the safety and success of every child who walked into Minegoziibe Anishinabe School," said Chief Nepinak. "Principal Nepinak lived her life with purpose and impacted many children and parents right to her last day."
Counselling is now available at the Bluesky Family Resource Centre for anyone who needs it.
The school will remain closed for the remainder of the week.
In a Facebook post, Derek Nepinak announced that Minegoziibe Anishinabe School will be closed this upcoming week, October 21-25.
The closure is due to a very sad situation regarding the health of the school principal, Mrs. Cynthia Nepinak.
Updates are expected to be provided in the coming days.
Council will also be arranging for grief counsellors that will be visiting the community in the coming days.
Children are asked to remain at home with their families.

A new court date has also been set for a man charged following a May incident on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
Mounties received reports of a man wielding a weapon and threatening people on the reserve, before a suspect allegedly took a family member’s vehicle, possibly hitting someone on an ATV.
26-year-old Errol Leask remains in custody on multiple charges and will make his next appearance in Swan River Court on November 6.
And two Swan River men charged with manslaughter in relation to a January stabbing death on Main Street in that community have also had new court dates set.
29-year-old Dean Bell and 40-year-old Tyrone Guiboche have been remanded in custody until their next appearance in Swan River. also on November 6.

Rotary Radio Week is set to begin on Monday on CKDM.
Throughout the week, we will profile the outstanding work done by Rotary in our area, under the principal motto of 'Service Above Self'.
Each weekday morning at 8:15, CKDM's Jeff Henson will be joined by a member of the Dauphin Rotary Club to not only talk about their personal involvement in Rotary, but to also profile different activities spearheaded by the local club.
On Monday, Jean-Louis Guillas will join Jeff to discuss the rapidly approaching Rotary Fall Book Sale.
Other topics during the week will include Gifts of Light, Rotary International Students, Active Living, and Lobsterfest.

Mike Csversko, Business Development Manager for Fusion, lays out the process:
"We've had 3 different scoring levels. so there was the application phase, then there was the business plan stage, and now we're at the live event stage. it's really at the final event that it's allocated, the dollar amounts, and how much to whom. You're sitting on the edge of your seat until the last pitch is over and our CEO Darwin John reveals the final results."
After the money from this year, Fusion will have given over $120,000 through this annual project, and its goal is to build community through business.
Csversko notes that the winners are often encouraged to use local contractors or services in building or growing their operations, feeding the local economy even more.
This event will be held at the Parkland Rec Complex in the Asen Lodge, and it will be open to the public to attend.
Csversko recommends audience members get there early and cheer loudly for the business they're hoping to win, as the lively, energetic atmosphere always makes for a fun time.
The Final 5 businesses include Multi-cook, Countryside Studio & Gym, Parkland Radon Testing and Mitigation, Systems Beauty College, and Friendly's Grocery Co-op.

A 30-year-old man is dead after shots were fired on the Sandy Bay First Nation.
Officers from the Manitoba First Nation Police Service responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in the community on Friday night at 11:25.
The man was located and pronounced deceased on the scene.
It is being treated as a homicide and if you have any information, you're asked to call 204-843-7701.

The Watson will be rockin' tonight, as the Northern Pikes are in town, commemorating 40 years of music!
The Watson Art Centre, in collaboration with the Manitoba Arts Network, is bringing this show to town.
Watson Director Cam Bennet is Thrilled to Bring The Northern Pikes to town and wants to bring even more too.
"We would always love to bring in some bigger names, that's for sure. It really depends on how much support we have in the community, and can we afford it? A band like this is not cheap, and we have assistance from the Manitoba Arts Network on this, but yeah. I'm always looking for new acts on this."

You may have seen some Busy building equipment behind the big beaver in Dauphin.
The City Of Dauphin recently announced on its social media that The old water reservoir between Main Street and Jackson Street, which has been out of service for over 20 years, is being demolished.
Once the area is demolished and backfilled, a seamless, grassy hill will be left in its place.

The votes are in at the Manitoba General Employee's Union, and the New Collective health agreement has been ratified.
Roughly 6600 healthcare support workers in the Prairie Mountain Health and Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authorities have voted to accept the tentative agreement reached by their bargaining committees and employers on October 8, 2024.
On average, MGEU Members will receive wage increases of %27 over the four years of the contract.
There are also improvements to sick leave, vacation provisions, and the addition of wellness days.
MGEU president Kyle Ross is pleased with the results:
It's a rather large increase. Our workers have told us they're really appreciative of this increase. It's unfortunate that it's not front-loaded, but our members are happy and so are we."
He also says the next steps will be to calculate the back pay, as the contract effect stretches to April.

Even though Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy has held the position of Commanding Officer for Manitoba RCMP since May of this year, a formal and symbolic ceremony took place on Thursday to make the passing of command official.
Parchments were signed and bagpipe banners were exchanged as part of the ceremony to mark the beginning of a new command in the province and a new path forward.
Assistant Commissioner McMurchy has taken over the post from Deputy Commissioner Rob Hill.
The ceremony was held at the Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site.

This weekend marks the start of fall craft sale season.
Grandview is holding its 13th annual Fall Harvest Show from 10 until 4 on Saturday at the Kinsmen Community Centre.
Event chairperson Lisa Boughton says the format for this year's show is the same as previous years., adding they have several new vendors and more handmade vendors in attendance.
"We have a couple of baking tables which is always a wonderful thing, and a freeze-dried treat table. Other than that, we have hand-made sewing, crocheting, we have a lady coming in that does leather-fur mitts and other items. It is her first time here. There is also a really neat wild Canadian artistry, who do stone carvings out of rocks and gems."
If you are looking to get a start on your Christmas shopping, Boughton says you need to check this event out.
"We actually have a couple of tables that have Christmas items. One lady has little Christmas trees that she has made - little table-yop Christmas trees. So there are tables that are focused directly on Christmas sales. But I know that I personally like to get my Christmas shopping done early, and this is a nice, easy way of doing it."
There will also be a silent auction and a 50/50 draw, with all proceeds being put back into the community.
Admission is three dollars per person.
Also this weekend there is the Selo Marketfest on Sunday at the Selo Hall south of Dauphin.

Dauphin Co-op has been celebrating Co-op week this week with celebrations in both Dauphin and Ste Rose.
Dauphin Co-op General Manager Lorne Eiffert says Co-op's are an important part of every community that they are located in Western Canada, adding it is great to support the week and to be recognized for their work.
Earlier this week, the Dauphin Co-op presented over 72 hundred dollars in proceeds from their Fuel Good Day promotion to the Friends of Dauphin Lake.
They also announced earlier this month that 1.2 million dollars will be given back to their members in the form of equity payments, as part of a $2.6 million total in allocations from 2023.
2024 marks the 85th anniversary of the formation of the Dauphin Co-op.
