Tonight (Monday) is the first school board trustee meeting for the Mountain View School Division since the removal of Stephen Jaddock as Superintendent by the board in late May.

That decision eventually led to the immediate resignation of three trustees - Scott McCallum, Leifa Misko, and Floyd Martens on June 3rd.

Limited public seating for the meeting was spoken for well in advance of tonight's gathering.

A new court date has been set for the two men charged with manslaughter in a stabbing death in Swan River from early this year.

The body of a 33-year-old man was found along Main Street in the community on January 13th and was transported to hospital where the victim was pronounced dead.

29-year-old Dean Bell and 40-year-old Tyrone Guiboche - both of Swan River - remain in custody until their next appearance on September 4th.

With the 2024 Manitoba Summer Games now just over two months away, an urgent call is being put out to fill the remaining volunteer spots for the event.

Games co-chair Carla Wolfenden says these spots need to be filled now.

"Laura (Beyette) needs to order T-shirts for volunteers, and that latest deadline has already passed, and we are still short, so she needs accurate numbers.  For certain positions, there are also required criminal record and child abuse registry checks that need to be done.  And we have been told that the deadline in order to have those completed in time for the games in August is June 15th."

Although they are hopeful that volunteers will sign up to take on multiple shifts, Wolfenden says they will take any help they can get for the August 11th to 17th event.

"If you can only do half of the week because you have commitments the second weekend, then you can just do the first phase.  Or you could do just the second phase.  We will take anything that people are able to give us because we need volunteers to make this event a success.  We know it will be, just the more hands we can get, the better it  will be."

You can sign up to be a volunteer by going to the Games office at City Hall, or online through the Sport Manitoba website.

Car enthusiasts will be flocking to Roblin next weekend for their 9th annual Rumble in Roblin Show and Sine event.

Set for 4 pm until dark on June 15th, the event has grown every year during its existence, according to event chairperson Keith Fast.

"I believe we started with 45 cars for our first show, and every year we have grown it from there.  We have had really good support from our local business community as far as sponsorships go and really good community spirit behind this car show, and it is a ton of fun."

Last year, around 150 cars took part.

Fast says they get cars from all over the place participating.

"A lot of cars from that Southeast Saskatchewan area.  We have had cars from as far as Winnipeg come, as well as really good representation from Dauphin and the Parkland region.  So yes, we get cars from everywhere,  And every year it is a total bunch of new cars as well, which makes it a lot of fun.  Every year we see new cars and new car clubs coming.  This year we have a club coming from Regina.  It is a ton of fun and a great evening."

Fast adds the Robln community has really embraced this event and eagerly looks forward to it every year.

The show and shine will take place along Main Street in Roblin, and anyone wanting to show off their wheels can simply register onsite the day of the event.

Anxiety is something that many people across the world deal with daily.

Scott McFadyen, Executive director Of the Anxiety Disorders Association Of Manitoba, wants to discuss it openly on Monday.

"June the 10th is an annual awareness day to bring awareness to things you can do to reduce anxiety. Here at the Anxiety Disorders Association Of Manitoba, that's literally our job."

McFadyen notes that 1 in 4 Manitobans struggle with anxiety at some point in their life.

He also says the first step to overcoming it, is self-reflection.

"That change needs to come from within a person. Once you've made that choice to make that change and live in the sunshine of not having anxiety rule your life, there's a lot of resources out there."

Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa MP Dan Mazier, Who Proposed Bill C-288

A bill that will provide clarity on internet speeds has passed the Senate and will become law.

Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa MP Dan Mazier created Bill C-288 and fought for over 2 years to get it into the rulebooks.

"It's a good day for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa, and all Canadians using the internet."

This bill will force internet service providers to stop using "up-to" speeds, which Mazier compares to paying for up to $50 in gas, but only getting $10 in the tank.

Mazier is proud to have accomplished this feat, as taking a bill through the Senate is a massive undertaking.

"It's pretty surreal actually. You think about, just a farm kid coming out of Justice, Manitoba ends up being an MP that passes legislation for all Canadians, it's really surreal."

Bill C-288 now awaits royal ascension, which Mazier hopes will occur before the summer break.
