With hydro rates looking to increase in the future, many are looking at new ways to save on energy costs.
Solar Energy is a new way to heat your home and cut your hydro bill.
Chief Operating Officer with Sycamore Energy, Alex Stuart, notes how it is determined through MB Hydro to qualify for their solar energy rebate:
"So what Hydro would do is provide a calculation. Let's say, over the last 2 years, you've used this amount of power, that's your average, and say you need this amount of solar panels. And that's right through their website."
"We're just coming to the tail end of the Manitoba Power Project for the Solar Energy Program. So that was a rebate, put out for people that would be interested in investing in solar panels, that offset the cost of their annual consumption."
A calculation is assessed to determine how much solar energy would be needed for a home to qualify.
