A house fire over the weekend in Dauphin is being treated as suspicious in nature and has been deemed as arson.

Shortly after 5:30 Saturday morning the Dauphin Fire Department responded to reports of trees on fire at a house located on 1st Street NE. It was later found to be the house that was on fire. Upon arriving, heavy black smoke was coming from the main floor. The fire had burned from the main through the second floor to the roofline and flames were coming from the upper eaves of the home. The fire had reached the attic.

On arrival fire crews gained access to search for anyone inside. No one was inside. Neighbors informed crews that the house had been vacated by the tenants earlier this month.

Fire crews remained at the scene for several hours to assist in the investigation with the Parkland RCMP.

If anyone has any information related to this incident, they are asked to contact the RCMP at 204-622-5020.
