From 9 until 3 students from across the Parkland are participating in the Parkland Headstrong Youth Anti-Stigma Summit.

The summit is part of mental illness awareness week. Students will hear personal stories of hope and recovery from people with lived experience of mental health problems and mental illness. Pat Searle, co-chair of the Suicide Prevention and Resiliency Committee talks about group learning and the details of who is speaking the event.

“I think they learn from each other and with each other. And some of the speakers are going to be peers, some youth that have different experiences will be sharing their stories. We expect about 150 students and faculty to arrive tomorrow and just to have them all together, I think experiencing the stories and having activities I think will really create a learning environment.”

The summit is being organized by the regional Suicide Prevention and Resilience Committee, with support from the Mental Health Commission as part of Headstrong.
