Changes are coming to the tax system in Canada and it has become a concern for producers.

The biggest change will throw doubt on succession plans for farmers set up under the old rules.

Keystone Agricultural Producers have created a petition to ask the government to slow down and understand how changes to some codes will drastically impact the agricultural industry.

Dan Mazier, president of KAP talks about the petition.

“Really the petition is asking for the government to  delay these decisions and extend the consultation period, that is really what we are asking for,” explained Mazier.  “And to bring it to the minister’s attention that this is going to have implications to agriculture specifically agriculture, that is different than any other business and that’s what we want to be able to tell the finance department and the agricultural department, and that is what the petitions are for.”

The government is seeking input on these changes until October 2nd.
