Seed distributor Quarry Seed is looking at getting into the corn business.

The process is going to take a while for the right varieties are found that Quarry Seed is willing to market.

Shawn Rempel General Manager of Quarry Seed talks about some of the more immediate effects this news has brought.

“From an immediate standpoint it give a little more exposure and credibility to what we are doing,” explained Rempel.  “If we are going to continue focus on so many agronomic corn trials and things like that, there is no point in doing that if you can’t really sell corn or sell those products or recommendations on competitor corn products so it has definitely given us a little more exposure on the market to place, lots of credibility and lots of influence on the soybeans side of things.  I think our trust level amongst our dealers and growers on the corn side of things is going to be quite high.  We will not launch our own corn brand unless we are 100 % confident that we are going to have a really strong performing hybrid .  There’s way too many good corn hybrids on the market right now, to be a middle of the pact type of corn you have to be strong.”

The company plans to launch a couple of varieties next year.
