Major repairs are needed for the swinging bridge north of Dauphin.
A committee has been created to try and find funding to make the repairs. The bridge has received damage by vandals in the past, and the R-M has had to install barricades to top people from walking on it.
Not only is the bridge something noteworthy and interesting, but it is also important to farmers and their livelihoods.
Chris Skuter is a farmer who lives close to the bridge and used it frequently.
“To me, the bridge is important because my livestock operation is on the other side of the river. The other side to my yard. And it’s important to me, but in fact, I was prepared to take ownership of the bridge, repair it, and have it stay for our use and for so on. But my insurance company is not prepared to cover the liability that would be involved in me owning that bridge. So I have to move my feedlot because in the spring the route to get to the feedlot is an additional 6 miles one way. Where as in the spring what we had been doing is leaving equipment right at the bridge and just walking across to the yard.”
