The Manitoba government is looking for input on watershed based drainage and water resource management.
The proposed changes would see a new sustainable system and a new balanced approach to drainage. This is a partnership with farmers, and as such, the government is looking to open discussions and create a dialog with producers. The government is launching public consultations on 3 new initiatives. Water control works licensing will also reduce red tape and protect important wetlands. Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler talks about this home grown initiative.
“We want to have input from Manitobans on a made-in-Manitoba approach to watershed management. That would deliver sustainable and targeted results for our province as a whole. And for our farmers then, they have always been excellent stewards of the land, and they have a unique opportunity to provide environmental solutions to issues facing our province through these incentive programs."
