Yesterday just after 4:00 pm, RCMP in Yellowhead responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 45 at the intersection of Road 122 West, around five kilometres east of Elphinstone. 

 

A car travelling southbound on Road 122 West failed to stop at the intersection and collided with a SUV travelling east on Highway 45.

There were four occupants in the car, and a female driver with a male passenger in the SUV. The front passenger in the car, a 31-year-old female from Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The remaining two passengers in the car, who were both from Waywayseecappo First Nation, are a 29-year-old male and a 30-year-old female. They were transported to hospital with serious injuries. The female driver of the SUV and her 52-year-old male passenger, both from Keeseekoowenin, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 27-year-old female from Waywayseecappo is charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death, 5 counts of Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Refusal to Provide a Blood Sample related to the death and 5 counts of Refusal to Provide a Blood Sample related to injury.

At this time, it appears all occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Yellowhead RCMP and a RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
