The future of a swinging bridge north of Dauphin is in jeopardy.
After many cases of vandalism, the bridge is no longer safe for people to walk on. The RM of dauphin is starting a committee to raise funds and look at possibilities for the repair of the bridge.
Jack Bremner, council member for the RM of Dauphin, discusses some of the plans the RM is looking at to restore the bridge.
“I’m hoping we can put together a committee to restore that bridge, and that people will help take part. You know, maybe we could have a fundraiser, there is companies and government that will match the money that you can raise. But if you do no fundraising they aren’t going to help you build the bridge. You know you need to raise some money on your own. I’m hoping there are some people out there who are interested enough to actually take part and help us out. We’re looking to probably having a meeting at the end of October to organize. If I get a list of the people who might come I can then gage were I can have the meeting. If its only 15 people we could probably have it in the RM building. I’m hoping there is a 100 people and we can have it in the Valley River Hall maybe."
There is not enough money in the RM budget to spend on repairs, and Mr. Bremner does not want to see rate payers pay more taxes to finance the project.
