A local Dauphin company recently donated a headstone to a woman buried in an unmarked grave site for nearly 60 years.
Provincial Granite, who recently opened a new store in Brandon, heard the story of Madeleine North and decided to help the family.
The family had recently found Madeleine after searching for many years.
One of the owners of Provincial Granite, Jeff Campbell talks about how the company became involved.
“On Mother’s Day, I was watching the late night news and seen a story where a woman had come to pass due to tuberculosis in the Ninette sanitarium. And, umm, here remains were buried in the Brandon Cemetery. But the family had been looking for her remains for 50 some odd years. On mother’s Day, they had finally found here and had a little service on Mother’s Day. And it kind of hit close to home for me and my colleagues because us being a memorial company we thought “you know what a person needs someone to mark them and commemorate their place of rest” and we thought what better way to start here in Brandon.”
The total cost of the headstone the company donated was in the range of 2 thousand 500 dollars.
