34 farms have tested positive so far in the current outbreak of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus in Manitoba.

Officials believe, one possible reason for the spread is the movement of people and pigs.

Chief Veterinarian Officer for the province of Manitoba, Dr. Megan Bergman, has some recommendations that could help stop the spread of PED.

"One of the things that we've really encouraged producers to do is really lock down their premise and ensure that only essential movement of animals or people or equipment is occurring so that we have no unnecessary visitors or traffic on the site that we can limit any potential further risk of transmission."

Dr. Bergman also recommends washing trailers between every load of pigs to prevent the spread of PED.
