Manitobans will have the opportunity to visit their provincial parks for free this month.

Vehicle permits will not be required in any provincial park during the month, but passes are still required for snowmobiles using groomed trails in the parks.

According to the Head of Interpretation at Manitoba Provincial Parks Sloan Cathcart the initiative is all about promoting winter activities across the province.

"Winter is a great time to visit parks, this has been the third year I believe we've offered free entry during February... it's all to encourage Manitobans to get out and enjoy our trails and different activities in the winter time at our parks."

There are groomed trails in 12 provincial parks across the province for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and hiking.
