The RCMP formed in 1920 on this day -- an amalgamation of the North-West Mounted Police and the Dominion Police of Eastern Canada.

Today marks the first ever RCMP Day in Manitoba.

Parkland RCMP commander Sergeant Nolan Suss says they don't do it for the accolades, but it's nice to get positive feedback.

"It's humbling to know that the province feels fit to recognize what the RCMP has done for Canada since day one."

Assistant Commissioner, commanding officer of the 'D' Division Scott Kolody shared similar sentiments as well.

"I feel very humbled by it personally, but I'm so appreciative of the efforts from the MLA of Emerson Cliff Graydon, and the work done by the post heritage group down in Emerson. Those folks were the one's that spearheaded and introduced Bill 208, which is the Royal Mountain Canadian Police Day Act, which really provides that recognition to the RCMP officers and employees both past and present."

RCMP will be in period uniforms at a road safety checkstop at Lower Fort Garry in Winnipeg today. They will also be showcasing some previously used modes of transportation, like snowmobiles, a dog sled, and a Red River cart.
