Donald Trump's immigration ban doesn't sit well with Canadian politicians across the spectrum, but not everyone is weighing in.
The New Democrats are asking for an emergency debate on the immigration ban ordered by US President Donald Trump on seven Muslim-majority nations.
Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa MP, Conservative Robert Sopuck, says the ban is something that they're not comfortable with at all.
"The U.S. has security issues and President Trump talked about them through the election campaign so none of this should be a surprise to anybody, but it's encumbent upon us to remind all of us that while both countries have the right to control their borders, immigration does enrich both countries when people come here to build better lives," says Sopuck.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted Saturday that Canadians will welcome those fleeing persecution, terror, and war, regardless of faith.
Conservative leadership hopeful Kellie Leitch, meanwhile, has tweeted that the US is a democracy and it's not our place to interfere. She has before proposed a value-screening process for new Canadians.
Maxime Bernier, another one making a bid for the top Conservative spot, similarly tweeted that Trump's decision is an internal matter.
