A looming taxation of health and dental benefits could be a possibility for Canadian employees.
The federal government is considering taxing employer-paid health and dental benefits, meaning that many employers will no longer provide coverage to employees says the Dauphin & District Chamber of Commerce.
According to the President of the Dauphin & District Chamber of Commerce Duane McMaster, the decision if followed through with will tax premiums.
"What their proposing to do is label that as what they call a taxable benefit -- a non-cash taxable benefit -- it would be added to their wages at the end of the year and the employee would have to pay income tax on that amount."
The Department of Finance Canada informed CKDM that they are unable to speak on the matter at the moment, due to the review of the federal budget in coming weeks.
