Manitoba's agriculture minister says we've only got one shot at a carbon strategy.

Ralph Eichler said to reporters at Manitoba AG Days on Tuesday farmers have to be competitive, but everyone has to be part of the solution when it comes to climate change.

"If we're not competitive, we're not in the game. We understand, we get that... But we know it's a problem... Look outside now, it's +1, pretty nice weather. What's the change? It's us. It is changing."

Eichler says a made-in-Manitoba carbon strategy is a priority, saying policy that affects Manitobans won't be dictated by the federal government.

Having checked with Dave MacLaughlin, the province's senior adviser on climate change, Eichler says more than 155 organizations have been met with in the consultation process.
