One fire investigator has taken issue with some of the conclusions of another at an arson trial in Dauphin.

The defense today called its last witness in a trial for 27-year-old Sean Nepinak and 25-year-old Seamus Nepinak, in which each are facing four counts of arson and one count of participating in the activities of a criminal organization. The charges relate to a house fire in Dauphin on August 31st, 2013.

The defense called a fire investigator as an expert witness today, who thought the conclusions about how and where the fire started by the fire inspector on scene were unnecessarily specific. Though he agreed with the general point of origin of the fire, he thought there wasn't sufficient evidence to say the fire started specifically within a cabinet, and by an open flame.

Today's witness was not an on-scene investigator, but had been given photos and other information relating to the fire to review the case.

Closing arguments will begin tomorrow.
