A province wide review of the library system is being launched by the Manitoba Government.

Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage Rochelle Squires announced yesterday that the program will look at issues impacting public libraries as well as identify priorities and opportunities for efficiency.

Library Director, Jean Louis Guillas says a review has long been over due.

"A review of the library system province wide is overdue, and this government is looking for efficiencies... I would say the Parkland Regional is really a model of efficiencies and regional cooperation right from 1970 when the Parkland Regional Library was set up."

The province says more information on how library service providers can contribute to the effort will be available in the coming weeks.

The Parkland Regional system manages 23 libraries across the Parkland.
