Manitoba has officially joined the New West Partnership Trade Agreement.

The announcement came today from the Premiers of Canada's four western provinces.

Progressive Conservative MLA for Dauphin, Brad Michaleski feels the announcement is a positive one for Manitobans.

"This kind of agreement and partnership it just sends a strong single to Manitobans, Western Canada, to Canada and internationally that we are open for business... our constituency is willing to compete, can compete and so if we can lessen barriers and open up trade I think that's a positive for our constituency and the province."

The previous Manitoba government stayed out of the agreement, preferring to focus on the nationwide Agreement on Internal Trade.

The original New West Partnership Trade Agreement came into effect July 1, 2010, and has been fully implemented since July 1, 2013.
