The City of Dauphin is giving the province the go-ahead to put traffic lights at River and Mountain.

Mayor Eric Irwin says the lights would mean access from 1st Street at that intersection would be blocked off.

"The way it is now as you well know is that corner's pretty confusing. You've got five streets coming into one corner. And so the theory would be is that there would be traffic lights going in at Mountain and River and 1st would be cut-off. If you're coming into town from the east you'll have go either turn at 2nd (from Mountain) or proceed down (River) and go down Main Street."

Dauphin city council voted yesterday in agreement with the closure of 1st Street at River when signalization takes place.
