Swan River RCMP Arrest 5
Swan River RCMP have executed arrest warrants on five males in relation to several incidents believed to be connected.
On October 7th, just after 9 in the morning, Swan River RCMP made the arrests in relation to an incident that occurred in the parking lot of a hotel in Swan River on September 17th, and a vehicle and structure fire located at a farm 3 kilometres west of Highway 10 near Bowsman the day after.
RCMP say, 51-year-old Marvin David Flett , 18-year-old Bradley Travis Kyle, 35-year-old Dale Garrett Genaille, and 27-year-old Travis Wayne Howdle all of Swan River have been arrested. Charges include break and enter to commit offence, aggravated assault, unlawful confinement, and arson. 40-year-old Frank James Paul Guiboche, of Roblin has also been arrested and charged by RCMP.
Police are still looking for 24-year-old Johnathan Keith Ferland, and 29-year-old Jedidiha Nostradamus Joseph Flett of Dauphin.

RCMP Investigate Into Manitobans Who Were Switched At Birth
Two cases of babies who were switched at birth at a northern Manitoba hospital more than four decades ago are now under an RCMP investigation.
Mounties say the probe into the mix-ups at the Norway House Indian Hospital will be separate from a review already announced by the federal government. DNA tests have confirmed that two men from Garden Hill First Nation and two other men from Norway House were switched at birth at the hospital in 1975.
The two cases have raised questions about whether other babies could also have been switched at the hospital.

Manitoba Toddler Apprehended
A supervisor with a Manitoba indigenous child-welfare agency says her 16-month-old grandson has been apprehended by another agency and she's been refused temporary custody of the boy.
The grandmother -- who cannot be identified -- says she has been trying to get custody but has been told she needs to be investigated first. The woman is a social worker and foster mother of two who has been working in child welfare for 15 years.
She says she has cultural concerns about her grandson's care, since he is indigenous but was seized by the non-indigenous Winnipeg general authority and is now being housed in a temporary shelter.

Manitoba Politician Apologizes After Outburst
One of the Opposition politicians who said "shame'' as female members of the Manitoba government voted down a private bill on sexual violence says he regrets what he did.
New Democrat James Allum says passions ran too high and a line was crossed during the vote earlier this week. He says he sincerely apologizes to the women in the Tory caucus who were left feeling intimidated.
The Tory government voted against a proposed NDP bill that would have required post-secondary institutions to develop firm policies against sexual violence and harassment. Tory member Sarah Guillemard filed a complaint with the legislature Speaker when some NDP members said "shame'' when female Tories stood up to vote.
Guillemard said she felt the move was meant to isolate women in the government caucus for voting against the bill.

Winnipeg Police To Be Equipped With Naloxone
The Winnipeg police department says it is hoping to equip its officers with naloxone, the antidote to fentanyl, in the coming weeks.
Deputy Chief Danny Smyth says there are some logistical things to work out first. He also says another hurdle to clear is the fact that naloxone is not effective below freezing, an obvious problem in a place like Winnipeg.
He says educating kids about the danger of the drug will also be an important step.
