City and RM at Odds Over Dauphin Rec Services
The City of Dauphin says it's disappointed the RM is terminating their joint funding agreement for recreation services, and argues the RM pays a lower share than most other municipalities in this type of partnership would.
RM Reeve Dennis Forbes says it has nothing to do with whether its a good deal or not, it's about the RM's ability to pay.
"At this point we don't feel that we can. Without any new revenue growth, we cannot continue to punish agriculture by increasing taxes on an acre of land. They're carrying enough weight."
A release from the city argues the RM pays about 10 per cent less of the costs of Dauphin Rec Services by paying on a per capita model than if it were done on an assessment basis.
The RM has decided to pull out of its per capita arrangement with the city, and will instead decide its rec services contribution on a yearly basis. It is lowering its contribution by about $100,000 for 2017.

Sioux Valley Man Succumbs to Hunting Injuries
A Manitoba man has died from injuries he suffered while hunting last week.
RCMP confirm the 24-year-old man, who was from the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, died on Saturday.
Police reported earlier last week that the man was shot while hunting in the RM of Riverdale on Tuesday.
Police say they are continuing to investigate.

Regina's Heritage Site Decision Commended by Truth and Reconciliation Centre Director
The director for the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation in Winnipeg says a recent recognition of a residential school cemetery by Regina's city council is exactly what needs to be

Ry Moran says there are many other locations exactly like the one in Regina, and the city's decision to grant the site municipal heritage status can help encourage other jurisdictions to follow.
The cemetery is outside the former Regina Indian Industrial School, which operated from 1891 to 1910.
A 2014 land survey found there were potentially 22 to 40 unmarked graves of children in the cemetery.

Four Hurt in "Serious Incident" in Manitoba Wedding Social
A wedding social in the Interlake that turned violent has sent at least four people to hospital.
RCMP say officers responded to a "serious incident'' in Lake Manitoba First Nation early yesterday.
A spokesperson with STARS Air Ambulance says two people were airlifted to a Winnipeg hospital with traumatic injuries following some sort of altercation at wedding social.
Another two were also taken to hospital by a ground ambulance.

Biggest Pumpkin in Manitoba is Too Darn Big
A 14-year-old boy's pumpkin broke more than just the Manitoba record for the largest pumpkin -- it also broke the scale.
Milan Lukes' enormous pumpkin weighed in at 613 kilograms at the Roland Pumpkin Fair on Saturday, which was just under two kilograms heavier than the record setter he grew last year.
Judges had to use a grain elevator to weigh the pumpkin after the scale broke.
Because Lukes' pumpkin literally broke the scale, it has to be re-weighed to ensure the record is accurate.
