The RM of Dauphin is opting out of its funding agreement with the city for Dauphin Recreation Services.

The resolution was passed at today's council meeting.

Reeve Dennis Forbes says the RM hasn't had enough new revenue growth to compete with inflation.

"Whereas our partners in the city... they've had growth, growth, growth... all we see are new buildings going up. Our ratepayers are talking to us, phoning us, they're getting quite irate every time they hear Mayor Irwin announce that they're lowering taxes (in the city). 'Why can't the RM do that?'"

The RM will pay Dauphin Rec Services $250,000 in 2017. Forbes says that's $100,000 less than before. The RM will be determining its annual grant to DRS on a yearly basis.

Forbes says the decrease in funding doesn't even represent a full mill for the RM at this point, but it will go a long way to keep mill rate increases lower.
