Mountie Cleared of Wrongdoing in October Incident

Manitoba's police watchdog has determined a Mountie did nothing wrong last October in a brief pursuit of a suspected impaired driver, who then hit another car and killed its driver.

The crash took place after two Portage la Prairie RCMP officers spotted the suspect van at a gas station in St. Claude, but the van and its four occupants sped away before Mounties got out of their marked cruiser.

Police say they stopped the chase within one minute because the van was travelling at 150-kilometres per hour.

The van then passed a semi-trailer truck and crashed head-on with another car, killing 20-year-old Taylor Renwick.
