Not only is Manitoba Slurpee capital of the world, but did you know it's also the bacon capital of Canada?
For it's third year now, August is declared as Bacon Month.
Manager of Public Relations and Consumer Marketing Programs for Manitoba Pork, Susan Riese, says this was all because The Maple Leaf Foods plant in Winnipeg is the largest bacon processing facility in Canada.
"You know, everyone loves bacon." says Riese. "It's celebrated all over North America, you're seeing it incorporated into more restaurant menus all the time. And it's just everyone's favourite savoury meat I think. So, definitely worthy of celebrating." Riese said.
Recently Maple Leaf announced investment in the facility by the federal and provincial governments, increasing bacon production by 8 million kilograms a year.
