Pokemon Go has taken over the city.
The augmented reality game that was officially released in Canada on Sunday has taken Dauphin by storm, with trainers quickly getting familiarized with the community.
Joe Houston who is the owner of Go Beyond Games on Main Street, says the game is literally drawing people from all across the city during all hours of the day and night. He said, "We had some of our players out at twelve thirty at night and they were at the Recreation Complex... past mid-night, on a weeknight there was 35 people there."
However, the Pokemon craze that has swept across the country has received its fair share of controversy. Pokemon Go has already been accused of a number of distracted driving cases, as well as people disrespectfully walking on private property to capture the virtual creatures.
When asked about the safety component of the game, Houston felt there shouldn't be an issue - and I quote - "If you learn how to be self-aware and conduct yourself in a responsible manner as a fully grown adult."
Dauphin has many popular Poke-Stops, including virtual gyms where trainers can battle. Houston is describing the fad as a cultural phenomenon.
