Parks Canada is under fire by a national charity.

The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) recently published a report claiming the government organization to be focusing more on the promotion of tourism rather than conservation preservation.

National Director for the Parks Program at CPAWS, Alison Woodley says the decision by Parks Canada to move in this direction was a long time coming.

She said, "The report we released this week actually documented the dramatic shift that we have been observing over almost a decade now, on how Parks Canada manages our parks ... their focus has shifted from a primary focus on nature conservation to more of a focus in the development in marketing."

CPAWS is dedicated to the protection of Canada's public land and water.
