Winnipeg Sex Offender Appeals Sentence and Conviction
 
A Winnipeg man sentenced to 15 years in prison for running a sophisticated escort agency where young girls were plied with drugs and alcohol and sold for sex has appealed his sentence and conviction.

Darrell Ackman, a former independent political candidate who advertised as Mr. Jetz-TV, argues the jury came back with an unreasonable verdict and the judge gave him an unfit sentence.

A jury convicted Ackman in May of 14 charges including multiple counts of living off the avails of prostitution, making child pornography and sexual assault.

Seven young woman came to police, with the youngest just 14 at the time.

Family of Missing Calgary Girl Ask for Her Return Home
 
A Calgary family is pleading for the safe return of five-year-old Taliyah Leigh Marsman, as an Amber Alert for the missing girl remains in effect for a second day.

Taliyah's mother, Sara Baillie, was found dead in their apartment Monday evening.

Baillie's uncle has made a direct plea to whoever might have the child to drop her off somewhere she'll be safe.

Scott Hamilton says his niece had been raising Taliyah single-handedly, and the two were "inseparable.''

Update on Canada's Economic Outlook Coming Today
 
The Bank of Canada is set to deliver its first economic update since a pair of events that the central bank's governor says could affect the country's economy.

Stephen Poloz will refresh his projections today and make an announcement on the bank's benchmark interest rate.

It's his first update since a wildfire shut down oilsands facilities in northern Alberta and Britain voted to leave the European Union.

In a speech before last month's so-called Brexit vote, Poloz said the economic recovery was finally making progress.

New PM Taking Over in Britain
 
David Cameron is appearing before Parliament as prime minister for the last time today.

He's taking on his final session of prime minister's questions before tendering his resignation to the Queen.

Cameron's successor, Theresa May, will try to calm the country after the upheaval that followed its decision to leave the European Union.

She'll reportedly give priority to appointing a Cabinet minister in charge of implementing the Brexit decision.

Lots of Canadians Aren't Saving for Golden Years
 
A new report suggests nearly half of working-age Canadians aren't saving for retirement.

A global retirement report by HSBC says 48 per cent of pre-retirees in the country haven't started or aren't currently saving for life after work.

The survey also shows one in five working-age Canadians say money from downsizing or selling their homes will help pay for retirement.

That's nearly twice the global average.
