Brandon University has named the person who will be overlooking the university-level courses offered to first year students here in Dauphin.

On Tuesday Barry Nadolny was announced as the co-ordinator.

This pilot project hopes to give students in the Parkland region a university experience without having to make the move to Brandon.

Nadolny says his job right now is just getting the word out.

"The courses are going to be a go, we're hoping for good registration because this is a one year pilot we're really hoping that the number of people in the courses or such that the University will want to offer a second year program next year and to keep repeating the first year program in Dauphin."

Nadolny adds that the best part about these courses is the pricing.

"Usually whenever courses are offered away from campus the cost goes up tremendously to make up for a lot of cost. But, in this situation the tuition is almost right on what it is at Brandon University."

Starting in the fall this pilot will offer five different courses in the first tern and six in the second term.

Nadolny says he resides here in Dauphin as BU wants to hire locally.

"We're also looking that there are local instructors who are interested. So, if anybody in the area has a Masters or a PhD in subject area we would love to hear from them because BU is looking at regular instructors who are working for BU right now, but also looking for local people who might want to get into instruction."

The program was announced in the spring between BU and the City of Dauphin.
