In an effort to help end global hunger the Manitoba Agricultural Museum is putting on the world's largest pioneer harvest.
Harvesting Hope is where 600 pioneer farmers and 125 antique threshing machines from across Canada will harvest a 75 acre field of wheat in minutes to set a new Guinness World Record.

Spokesperson for Harvesting Hope, Ayn Wilcox says they are really excited for how many entries they have as the record is set at 111 threshing machines.

"We have 114 that are registered. We've got one as far away from Iowa that's coming and equipment from Edmonton and all across the prairies."

Wilcox says that the idea came from volunteers at the Agricultural Museum in Austen, MB.

"They heard that there had been a similar event held in Saskatchewan a couple of years ago. So, the volunteers just really felt that we could really blow away that record and work with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank at the same time."

This is being held in conjunction with the Manitoba Thresherman's Reunion & Stampede.

Proceeds from the event will assist the Canadian Foodgrains Bank's efforts to end global hunger and the Manitoba Agricultural Museum's efforts to preserve their agricultural heritage.

Wilcox says that the excitement keeps building as the days get closer.

"We've got less than a month until we're actually doing this and we need to make sure that all that equipment is functioning and there has been a huge effort over the last 15 months to get some equipment that hasn't run in 30 years actually operating. So it's really exciting to see the equipment go again."

The day happens on Sunday, July 31 and donations can be made at www.harvestinghope.ca
