Duck Bay Man Changes Tune in Trial, Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder
A trial in Dauphin related to the shooting of a man in Duck Bay ended abruptly this month when the accused pleaded guilty to two charges.
Wilson Waylon Frederick Parenteau Junior, of Duck Bay, was facing six counts related to the shooting of a man in Duck Bay on November 10, 2013.
He had originally pleaded not guilty to all six charges against him. His trial began in November but on June 15, after an 8-month delay, Parenteau pleaded guilty to two charges: attempted murder and possession of a firearm while prohibited. The Crown has stayed the remaining charges.
Sentencing is to take place July 28.

Prairie Mountain Health to Sponsor More International Medical Graduates
Prairie Mountain Health is set to benefit from changes in the way international medical graduates are allocated in health regions across Manitoba.
PMH CEO Penny Gilson says there are only so many spots available for international medical graduates to undergo the needed training and assessment to become conditionally licensed as medical practitioners in Manitoba.
She says a needs-based methodology is being applied this year, whereas historically, spots were allocated equally amongst the rural and northern health regions.
Gilson says last year PMH had the ability to sponsor two international medical graduates and this year they will sponsor seven, which should hopefully result in seven ready-to-practice physicians by next summer.

Wildfires Prompt Officials to Call for Evacuation of Two MB First Nations
More than 2,000 people have been ordered to evacuate two central Manitoba communities due to approaching wildfires.
The Manitoba government ordered residents to leave the Easterville and Chemawawin First Nations because of smoke and the threat from a fire that has moved to within half a kilometre of the community.
About 70 people from Easterville will be heading to The Pas while up to 2,000 people from Chemawawin will be going to Winnipeg.
A graduation ceremony on the Chemawawin reserve was cut short before the grads even got their diplomas because of the evacuation order.

Britain Votes Yes on Brexit, Will Leave EU
World financial markets took a double shock this morning as the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union and British Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation.
Bank of England Governor Mark Carney says the bank is prepared to counter any instabilities in the British economy.
It will be at least two years before the separation becomes official.
