Battle of Seven Oaks
This Sunday marks the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Seven Oaks commemorating the Metis people as a culturally distinct nation.
The bicentennial celebration will host a series of events including a memorial at Cuthbert Grant's grave site marker at St. Francois Xavier Parish at 9:00 am.
Will Goodon who is the Minister of Housing and Property Management for the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) says the celebration will educate Manitoban's about Metis history that they may have not learned.
He added, "People like Cuthbert Grant did so much more and sort of laid the ground for people like Riel.... we need to recognize that and continue to move forward."
The bicentennial celebration comes days before National Aboriginal Day.
