Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler recently made a presentation to the Senate standing committee on "Agriculture and Forestry" providing Manitoba's perspective on international market access.
The Senate standing committee has been formally hearing from stakeholders and government officials on international market access focusing on the Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector.
 
The Agriculture Minister said, "Our exports are a large part of our economy, our exports just total just under $5.2 billion dollars ... we have an abundance of great product and of course we want to make sure all our voices our heard."  
 
The presentation by the Agriculture Minister discussed Manitoba's strengths in agri-food and concerns about international market access.
 
He reinforced that Manitobans are open for business, and are willing and ready to participate in our export programs if in fact we are given the opportunity.
 
The Agriculture Minister further added Manitoba's support for the Trans - Pacific Partnership agreement.
