No Special Treatment for Dust Control in RM of Dauphin

The RM of Dauphin won't be doing any specific prep work for people putting dust control on roads this year.

Reeve Dennis Forbes says the RM will maintain and blade roads as per usual.

"At the end of the day, we're just going to maintain the roads. And if the dust control was put down for a week, or a day, or an hour, and we go by and we put a load of gravel on or blade the road, that's just the way it's going to be. Sorry about that, but that's just the way it's going to be."

Forbes says it's time consuming and expensive to prep for dust control.

Co-Founder of Manitoba Gang Dies

One of the co-founders of Manitoba's notorious Indian Posse street gang has died while doing time at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

Forty-year-old Richard Daniel Wolfe, who was convicted of assault and sexual assault, was found in the prison's exercise yard on Friday and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Correctional Service of Canada will only say the incident is still under investigation.

Wolfe's brother Daniel was killed in a brawl at the same Saskatchewan prison in 2010 while serving time for a double murder.

The two brothers founded the Indian Posse in 1989.

Run, Eat Bacon, Repeat

It was wet and cold, but there was bacon.

The first annual Manitoba Bacon Run was held at the Selo site on Saturday.

Valerie McInnes calls her husband a bacon freak and says they went as a family. She says they'll definitely come back next year.

"It's a great event for families because, you know, you can walk or run so it doesn't really matter on your skill level. As a school principal, I'm really looking forward to maybe trying to promote the event with my school kids too."

David McInnes said it was a great event.

Youngsters Kyra Lee Lefort Lynx and Abbie Therien-Guinn said running down the hill was their favourite part.

Manitoba Bacon Run chairperson Clayton Therien says he was a little disappointed with the turnout, but it was good for a first event.

Prime Minister Not Weighing in on Bell/MTS Deal Yet

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it is too early to voice his opinion on the proposed sale of Manitoba Telecom Services to Bell.

Trudeau was asked about the proposed $3.9-billion sale of MTS to Montreal-based BCE Inc. during the Liberal Party convention in Winnipeg.

The deal requires approval from regulators, including the federal government and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

Trudeau says he wants to see rural communities get better access to phone and Internet services, and says economic opportunities are linked to strong, affordable access to the Internet and cellphone service.
