The RM of Dauphin is allowing necessary agricultural-related burning, but that's it.

Reeve Dennis Forbes says they are not issuing a burning ban to allow producers to burn stubble, but he says if you light an unnecessary fire, be prepared to pay for it.

"In regards to residential burning-- leaves, grass, twigs, and so on-- just don't. An unnecessary fire is going to be an expensive fire to whoever lights it."

Forbes says the RM will be recovering the cost of fires that are blatantly unnecessary.

Fire chief Cam Abrey says all residential burn permits in the RM are being cancelled effective immediately. Anyone in violation of local fire bylaws will have to pay the full cost of firefighting efforts.

EDIT: Adds updated information about residential burn permits.
