Council Hears From More Candidates
A couple more of Dauphin's provincial hopefuls got to lay out their priorities to city council on Monday.
Kate Storey of the Greens and the Manitoba Party's Darryl Inkster attended Monday's council meeting.
Storey says the Green Party is running on a plan to reduce poverty by half.
"We can do this. We also want to create jobs greening the economy, and that means jobs insulating houses and putting solar panels on roofs and all those good things that will put money back in our pockets and create jobs here in Dauphin."
Inkster spoke of lowering taxes and pushing for a basic agricultural program in schools.
"They used to have a greenhouse at the high school and stuff when I was a kid. I used to love going in there, see the plants growing and stuff. Now it's not there anymore. Kids don't know how to plant a tomato plant anymore."
The City of Dauphin has invited all candidates to meet with council. They have already met with the NDP's Darcy Scheller. PC Brad Michaleski was scheduled to be at Monday's meeting but was unable to attend; he's offered to meet with council April 15.
Garry Gurke is running for the Liberals. CKDM has not yet reached out to find out when he will be meeting with council.
