The leader of the PC party of Manitoba says free health care doesn't mean much if people can't access it.

Brian Pallister says if elected his government will focus on doctor recruitment and retention, building personal care home beds, and reducing ambulance fees so people can get care in a timely fashion. And he says it will be a massive challenge.

"I'm not suggesting there'll be instant results either, it's going to take a while. You can't just slap up a personal care home but it needs to be something we focus on, and we will focus on it."

Pallister was in Dauphin this morning answering questions during a fundraising event for local Progressive Conservative candidate Brad Michaleski.

He also touched on infrastructure and government waste.
