The first year university student, is currently competing in the "Chevrolet and CMT's Tailgate" contest, where the grand prize is a trip to Nashville.
Peterson performed at Countryfest, which she says helped her grow.
"It was just a good experience and I think it really helped me as a performer."
Peterson says social media has been a great tool in promoting herself.
"For me it has been a good thing... It's a way for me to post stuff on Facebook without using my personal account."
Voting closes on Saturday, with the winner being announced Sunday during the CCMA Awards.
